Portable Document Format (PDF) Conversions

It's amazing how many Internet sites these days feature that clickable little banner importuning the surfer to download Adobe Acrobat Reader.  More and more, businesses offering catalogs, reports, sell sheets and product manuals on the Internet are making them available solely in Adobe Portable Document Format (aka 'PDF').  And this applies not only to private companies, but to many state and federal government agencies as well.  As a matter of fact, the Internal Revenue Service now offers all its forms and publications on the web and on CD-ROM in interactive PDF format.

The benefits of converting a library of documentation to PDF format are clear.

Thousands upon thousands of paper pages can be optimized in PDF format and stored on a single CD-ROM or any other medium of storage.  Nor does it matter what format the original documentation is in.   The production of any program can be successfully converted to PDF, including hard-copy-only paperwork via an Adobe scan and capture feature.

Once converted, the PDF library can be accessed on virtually any computer platform (PC, Macintosh, Unix, etc.) simply by using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.  No more worries about whether others can open your files with their software!

Forms are especially good candidates for PDF conversion, as interactivity can be added to them through a special overlay process.  That is, a once static form can be made to accept typed-in completion on the user's desktop, and can include clickable buttons to immediately provide printing or faxing.  The overlay process can also include totaling of rows and columns of math and computation of sales tax as well!  Click the link to the right to see a sample form now. Remember, you will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader, version 3.0 or newer, to properly view it.  If you don't have Reader yet, download it from Adobe Systems, Inc., now.

If you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, just click here to try out an interactive PDF form.
